Para responder às complexidades dos problemas de sinalização e comunicação para o controle dos trens, a Nexans desenvolveu WANs (linha troncal), MANs e LANs baseadas em fibra óptica. A Nexans é também uma especialista em tecnologia GSM-R. Para satisfazer as necessidades de segurança de túneis e sistemas de metrô urbano, a Nexans produz metal-blindado e todos os cabos de fibra óptica dielétrico, oferecendo imunidade eletromagnética.
A estação intermodal do Oriente em Lisboa utiliza uma LAN Nexans para gerenciar 8 linhas ferroviárias, um metrô e um sistema de transporte coletivo. Um cabo totalmente dielétrico de 216 fibras foi homologado para o metrô de Londres. Além disso, cada vez mais estão sendo instalado nas compactas linhas do metrô, microcabos de fibra óptica que são mais compactos, eficientes e mais baratos.
